HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO PRODUCE A NEW OLD GREEN MODULAR (NOGM) HOME?

Because NOGM homes are factory-built in a state-of-the-art, highly efficient manufacturing facility, a newly built home can be produced, transported, erected and finished in 120 days from the start of the production process is initiated.

WHAT IS ACTUALLY ‘GREEN’ ABOUT A NOGM HOME?

What ultimately dictates how green a home can be is measured by technical structural performance and how much energy and natural resources are required to provide a safe and comfortable environment for all inhabitants. A NOGM home reduces overall energy consumption by more then 50%, saves thousands of gallons of water per year and provides superior indoor air quality when compared to a typical code-built house.

A NOGM home is considered ‘green’ along several dimensions. New World Home is an active participant in both the U.S. Green Building Council (USG BC) LEED for Homes rating System, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) National Green Building Standard, EarthCraft House and the EP A Indoor Airplus Program.

A NOGM is able to achieve the highest levels of certification by utilizing a “whole systems approach” to home construction. Well thought out design, a strong project team, world class brand partners and various construction techniques are all contributing factors to building a NOGM home.

SINCE THEY ARE BOTH BUILT IN FACTORY SETTINGS, WHAT DIFFERENTIATES NOGM HOMES FROM OTHER MODULAR HOMES?

While there are many innate green characteristics related to modular manufacturing (e.g., climate controlled setting, reduced waste, etc.), there are two primary differences between a NOGM home and an ordinary modular home.

First, a NOGM home is based on a historically inspired traditional design (“new old”) that evokes the spirit of the past while respectfully integrating all of the modern conveniences and amenities afforded by the 21st century.

Second, a NOGM utilizes a whole systems approach to design incorporating the most stringent green standards, products and practices in the industry (e.g., LEED for Home). As a result, a NOGM home approaches USGBC LEED for Home PLATINUM certification directly out of the factory. Via the convergence of traditional design and state-of-the-art green elements, New World Home has established the basis of a NOGM-Certified™ housing solution.

Here at New World Home, we don’t just celebrate the Earth today, we celebrate you!

That’s right, we said it. Earth Day isn’t just about the Earth, it’s also about you … and me … and all of us. Celebrating and respecting the Earth with responsible green choices is not about a distant future or place. It’s about you, today, here and now. Celebrating Earth Day is about making choices that offer you and your family a happier and healthier life now, while establishing an important legacy and raising the bar for generations to follow.

The reality is that it’s not always practical, affordable or desirable to make the green choice. We can’t always find a place to recycle our water bottles, let alone remember to carry around a refillable bottle. Carpooling to the office doesn’t always work when you have to pick up the kids from school or soccer practice. Buying organic milk, bread and cheese is sometimes just too expensive.

And on a day like today, many of us as individuals will ask ourselves, “Am I doing enough for the environment, for the Earth, for our children’s children?”

Here at New World Home, we realize that in order to truly celebrate Earth Day every day, we make it about you every day. We are committed to making it practical, affordable and desirable to choose green when making one of the most important decisions of your life … buying a new home.

Imagine yourself on April 22nd 2012, Earth Day one year from today, living comfortably with great peace of mind in one of the Greenest Homes on Earth™. How satisfied will you feel about the choice you’ve made for your family … your planet … yourself?

Whether you’re in the market for a new home today, this year or further down the road, or if you just want to learn a little more about our homes, give us a call toll-free at 1-800-841-5042 or simply click here.

If you’ve ever wondered how you can make Earth Day every day, start thinking about a New World Home. We are deeply committed to building traditionally designed, green homes that are affordable, high quality and turnkey. We’d love to show you how.

Factory Factor
Modular homes are still considered radical by many builders, but there’s a middle ground between box module and stick-built that they are starting to warm up to. We are of course referring to panelized walls, roof systems, and other prefab components as a means of moderating costs, reducing job site waste, and improving quality with structural pieces that aren’t exposed to weather for long stretches of time. Whereas “factory built” was once considered synonymous with “trailer park,” houses today that incorporate panelized design are nearly impossible to distinguish from conventionally built homes once they’re stitched up. And, contrary to some lingering bias, the prefab stuff is not invariably contemporary. Many factory-built homes now come in traditional styles such as Georgian, colonial, and even Victorian.

Homes in the Country Living Collection by New World Home are about as traditional as they come and – surprise! — they’re modular. The portfolio includes five house plans ranging from 1,100 to 2,300 square feet, each of which can be built for $175 to $225 per square foot.

New York House Magazine recently wrote an article on the top 10 players who are making an impact by creating a more sustainable built environment. New World Home’s own Mark Jupiter and Tyler Schmetterer make the list:

Mark Jupiter and Tyler Schmetterer

Co-Founders, New World Home Mark Jupiter and Tyler Schmetterer, Skidmore College roommates who have been best friends for over 25 years, pooled their resources to launch New World Home with the belief that their green modular homes can transform the housing industry. New World Home builds and delivers homes that are historically inspired, affordably priced, and exceed the highest green standards in the industry. Its New Old Green Modulars (NOGMs) have achieved LEED Platinum and NAHB Emerald certification, without relying on costly renewable energy sources (e.g. solar panels, wind turbines, geothermal systems, etc.). Through superior building science, smart design, and an ultra-tight building envelope, the homes achieve a minimum of 50-percent-plus energy savings over a typical site-built home from day 1. Having built several NOGMs in New York, Georgia, and New Jersey, the company has a program to expand nationally through a turnkey licensing program to provide “on-demand housing”—working with developers, builders, landowners, and realtors to create regionally appropriate, sustainable housing. Because its homes have such a short building timeline, there is no longer the need for speculative building. This “on-demand housing” model, the executives feel, will become quite popular. New World Home is building a home in New Jersey for the former Governor and Head of the EPA Christie Todd Whitman’s family. It’s on target to be the first LEED Platinum and NAHB Emerald factory-built home in that state.
